The city of El Paso, situated next to the Rio Grande, is a doorway to a fascinating desert landscape with its own unique environment and culture. The nearby Franklin Mountains State Park is the biggest draw, offering 24,247 acres of scenic desert to climb and hike, spotting cacti, coyotes and golden eagles and enjoying the incredible views across the barren landscape as you go. If hiking isn’t your thing, the Wyler Aerial Tramway offers gondola rides to experience the views from the top of Ranger Peak. For the kids, nothing beats a trip to the huge El Paso Zoo or a visit to the Western Playland theme park!
There’s no end of things to do here – if you’re travelling in to see a show at the Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center, we’d highly recommend you book to stay overnight (at least!) and sample some of the delights the city has to offer.
